Patio Field – Conceptual Surface Study for Najdi Homes

حقل الفناء — دراسة تصميم الأسطح للمنازل النجدية

The Garden Mandala concept explores how a hand‑painted geometric motif can be integrated into Najdi architecture through contemporary surface‑design methods. The study aligns with the cultural direction of Vision 2030, which encourages modern artistic interpretations of national heritage. With this in mind, the motif and its color palette were carefully selected to complement Najdi façades rather than overpower them, allowing the architecture to remain the primary visual anchor while receiving a subtle artistic enhancement.

The visualizations are placed within the architectural language of Najdi houses, including those found in Diriyah.

The motif can be applied as a large‑scale mosaic on expansive façades, where its circular geometry and warm tones create a distinctive yet contextually grounded presence. It can also be divided into smaller tile units and arranged in a grid for use on more intimate surfaces such as arcades, courtyards, or fountains. Beyond mosaic applications, the design can be realized as a painted element directly onto plaster, offering a softer, more traditional integration into the built environment.

This conceptual study demonstrates how a hand‑painted watercolor motif can transition into architectural scale while remaining aligned with regional aesthetics, cultural continuity, and contemporary interpretations of heritage.
